Donations & Gifts

Books, audio, and video materials

  • The Friends of The Colony Public Library accept donations of books, videos, DVDs, and music CDs year round.
  • If you have more than one box of donations, please call the Library first at 972-625-1900 and press extension 3 to speak with a librarian.
  • Donations become the property of the Friends of The Colony Public Library and will be added to the library collection, or placed in the next Friends sale to raise money for new library materials, or placed in a recycling bin.
  • Donations will not be returned to the donor.
  • A tax receipt is available upon request.
  • Thank you for your interest in and support of The Colony Public Library.

Adopt-A-Book Program

  • The Adopt-A-Book program makes it easy for you to honor someone while helping build the Library’s collection. Whether it is in memoriam or a tribute to a birthday, anniversary, or other special day, your donation enables us to add books that enrich lives to our collection.
  • Visit the Library to browse the selection of materials that are waiting to be adopted. The Reference Desk staff will show you the current selection whose jackets are on display in the Reference area. The cost to adopt each is shown with its jacket.
  • Fill out the Adopt-A-Book form and give it, the jacket for the book you wish to adopt, and your payment to the staff member at the Reference Desk. The selected book will be rush-processed into the collection, with a personalized book plate affixed.
  • You will be given a donation receipt. If you wish, you may take the donation notification card with you and deliver or send it to the person to be notified of your donation. Otherwise, the Library will send the card on your behalf.
  • The Friends of The Colony Public Library provided the seed money for this program, allowing the establishment of the original selection of Adopt-A-Books. The Friends continue to administer the funds for this program, as well as for the many other dedicated donation programs that help support the Library.
  • For further information about the Friends of The Colony Public Library and about other ways you might help support the Library, please contact Library Director Joan L. Sveinsson 972-624-3184.

Magazines

  • Magazine donations are not generally accepted. For information regarding magazine donations, please call the Library and press extension 3 to speak with a librarian for the name of a contact with the school district who may take your magazine donations.
